Vintage Elmwood “Artisan” Armoire. Handcrafted in China; handpainted by Bay Area artist Merrilyn Lily in turquoise blue and accented with muted yellow. In holistic medicine, the color turquoise purportedly has a calming effect on patients, and is particularly used to treat patients prone to panic attacks or mania. Hospitals also use turquoise and other light shades of blue and green to calm patients by painting the walls in these colors. Turquoise is perceived by most people as the ‘coolest’ of all colors. It is generally cut into small billets or logs with its sharply demarcated bright yellow white sapwood left on to assist in the slow drying so as to prevent cracks developing. Solid hand crafted and hand carved Vintage Asian folk-art chair. Made of “chicken wing wood” - a wood with deep brown and gray patterns when cut tangentially resemble the patterns of bird feathers. It is botanically classified in the Ormosia genus of which as many as twenty-six species may grow in China. Ergonomically designed for proper posture.
